Summer reading response

A book that I read over the summer was The Kill Order by James Dashner. The book is about a boy named Mark who lives with six other people. They are all survivors of the sun flares which killed many people on the Earth, including most of their families. They live peacefully now, but one day trouble comes. With that trouble comes an adventure for Mark which is full of different actions and emotions for Mark. Marks actions and emotions are affected by what happens in the story.

Mark took risky actions during when the Berg flew to were their camp was set up, and started shooting darts at people. At first he ran away with his friends. But when his friend, Darnell, was shot with the darts and fell down unconcious, Mark did something very risky, "Mark held it like a rifle and pointed it directly toward the middle of the hatch door. He pulled the trigger... The hook and trailing rope shot toward the Berg, up and over the edge of the open hatch." Mark shot a hook to grab onto the Berg and pulled himself onto it. He was probably filled with rage of what the people in the Berg did to his friend Darnell and other people. They infected them with a virus and most of them died right there on the spot. But it was risky to go on top of the Berg and leave his girlfriend, Trina, and the rest of his friends by themselves. He should never have done that.

Another time when Marks actions and emotions were affected by the plot was when he couldn't find his girlfriend Trina. He was devastated. He and Alec left for ten minutes and when they got back Trina and another woman called Lana weren't there. In the book it says, "Mark could barely contain himself. Of all the crap they'd been through, at least he and Trina had never really been seperated before." Mark couldn't control himself. Again his rage got the best of him and he started yelling in frustration and pulling on his hair. He was so angry at all the horrible stuff that has happened to him, and he started acting like a wild animal. But luckily his older friend Alec got him to cool down on the outside. Now he was only full of rage on the inside of him.

Lastly a way that the plot affects Mark is that when he and Alec finally find and rescue Trina and the little girl, Deedee, Trina doesn't know who any of them are. After Trina asked Mark, "Who are you?" he almost freezes in place, "The words hit him like a rapid series of thumps to his heart. He tried to convince himself that there were a million reasons she could've said what she did." Mark was shocked. After all those years of having a crush on Trina and now actually being her boyfriend, and saving her from the crazy people, she doesn't know who he is. It probably feels like hell to him right now. He's risked his life so many times for her, and been with her during the horrible sun flares. Now she doesn't know who he is. It's not her fault that she got her memory erased but Mark must feel really horrible hearing those words from the person he truly loves.

In conclusion the plot of the book affects Mark and his actions as well as his emotions. In some cases the plot makes him do some very risky stuff. Or sometimes it makes him rage inside and out. But sometimes it just makes him really somber and hurts his heart alot. This connects to the real world because in the real world people react to different things differently. Sometimes the go super mad or really somber on the inside. Sometimes they show their emotions on the outside by being violent or doing risky things. Everyone reacts to different things differently just like Mark did.
