"What's wrong with that boy, I wonder? You Tom!" This is a quote from the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The book is about a boy named Tom Sawyer who lives with his aunt and cousins. Tom is very mischievious and energetic. He's everywhere and never behaves. He has lots of adventures with his friends. During those adventures Tom experiences fright, love, and hapiness.
At one point in the story Tom feels frightened. He sneaks out of his house at midnight and goes to the graveyard with another boy called Huckleberry Finn. Him and Huck go to the graveyard because they believe that if you bring a dead cat to the graveyard their warts will go away. When they get there they hear people talking, so they quickly hide and wait. The think that the people are devils coming for them. Huck says,"It's the devils, sure enough. Three of 'em! Lordy, Tom, we're goners! Can you pray?" They both panic and listen. The men have an argument and then one of them stabs another. In the book it says that after the man gets killed, "The two frightened boys went speeding away in the dark." That means that after the man got killed the boys were so frightened that they ran for their lives and didn't care about being undercover anymore.
Another part in the story where Tom experiences an emotion is when he meets a girl called Becky Thatcher. When he sees her it's love at first sight. In school all he does is stare at her, and he wants to impress her by doing tricks and drawing nice pictures. At one point he writes something on a piece of paper and doesn't let her see. Finally he lets her and this is what happens,"And she put her small hand upon his and a little scuffle ensued. Tom pretending to resist in earnest but letting his hand slip by degrees till these words were revealed: "I love you." She hits him on the hand but smiles and her face reddens. So does Toms. Tom is now feeling love and wants Becky to know that he loves her.
Lastly another emotion that Tom experiences happens when he and Huck find the old treasure chest. Tom and Huck go back to the cave because Tom says he knows where the treasure is. Huck believes him and so the go. Once they get to the place Huck spots a cross on a rock. But the treasure isn't under it. Then they spot footprints and follow them to a rock on top of clay. Tom starts digging and feels wood. So he and Huck dig in excitement. When they got it out Huck says,"Got it at last...My but we're rich, Tom!" Then with smiles on their faces theyy take the treasure back to their home and show it to Tom's Auntie and a man who was taking care of Huck. Everyone was amazed and full of joy, especially Tom and Huck.
In conclusion Tom experiences fright, love, and hapiness throughout the story. This connects to the world because people experience all sorts of feelings and emotions in life. They can also experience fright, love, hapiness, and all kinds of other emotions.
Great job Pawel. I liked how you showed the major emotions from the book and how through that you were able to give me enough details about the book to make me want to read it. I liked how you showed how there were mixed emotions throughout the story and that it's not just one emotion that is there the entire time. I really liked the response.
ReplyDeleteI find your response very strong and focused. You picked the same topics to focus on that I did and you did a great job of explaining each of them. I think you also elaborated really well on each of your paragraphs and made sure to include some quotes. I love the way you decided to start your paragraph off with a quote and you automatically gave us a intro to what type of person Tom Sawyer is. Great response keep up the good work.
